Compline in Fort Tryon Park

The next Compline may seem a far cry from the 250-person cathedral event of August 13. My colleague and friend, Daniel Scarozza, and I biked around two parks recently scouting out some non-church venues for Gregorian Chants.  In Fort Tryon Park (home to The Cloisters), there's a pedestrian tunnel just off the main path to the museum that has about 2-3 seconds of reverb.  Notably, the tunnel acts as a megaphone for the nearby promenade/overlook point that has a beautiful view of the Hudson River Valley.

The next Compline will begin at 7:00 PM on Sunday, August 27, 2006.  I’ve arranged a meeting point for those interested in coming to the service just inside the gateway of Margaret Corbin Circle (the entrance closest to the 190th St A-train station).  A group will meet there at 6:45 PM and walk toward the tunnel for the thirty-minute gathering.

I'm anxious to try this alternative type of presentation.  It will be a chance to see how Compline works in a public setting.  Check out the information page for directions, and let me know what you think.  I could use your help spreading the word, and, of course, I would love to see you there.
