“I am fascinated by Oliver Brewer's Compline Project
because it is a new artistic expression drawn from the
roots of a combination of many of my traditional
musical and spiritual experiences. Last Sunday we
experimented by bringing Compline, usually aurally and
visually safeguarded by the confines of a building, to
the beautiful outdoor setting of Fort Tryon Park,
having discovered an acoustically excellent tunnel
through which Gregorian Chant would buzz. The rainy,
autumnesque evening created an image for me of an
ancient community seeking shelter from a storm,
gathering us closely together in the most appropriate
refuge before commencing with a ceremony. The
service, witnessed by friends, children, Christians
and people of different faiths exposed us to the
elements of God's creation and the evolution of man's
interpretation God's creation.”
